Hello,
My name is Justin Slocum, and I'm running for Wheat Ridge City Council District 3. I believe our community's voice matters, and I'm committed to ensuring it's heard. My platform focuses on bringing fiscal responsibility and government accountability back to Wheat Ridge.
I'm a hands-on problem-solver with a background in mechanics, having worked my way up to management in the construction industry and with the State of Colorado. While I've learned tough lessons along the way, these experiences have made me a better leader.
My family has deep roots in the community; my great-grandparents moved to 6380 W 47th Ave, Wheat Ridge, in 1951. My great-grandfather, a boilermaker, helped build the old steam engine that ran around Lakeside. Additionally, my great-great uncle was involved in the local newspaper printing business, contributing to the development of color printing processes.
Professionally, I've worked as a mechanic in heavy equipment construction since 1996, quickly advancing due to my skills. I was recruited by other companies and eventually rose to management in a privately owned construction company. In that role, I was responsible for equipment management, talent development, logistics, and cultivating revenue-generating services to reduce overhead costs.
I attended Arvada Jr. High School and graduated from Arvada Senior High School. My family also owns and operates an Italian Market & Deli in Arvada, which was founded by my grandmother in 1984 and passed down to my mother, who has managed the business for over 20 years. I play a significant role in the management and operational readiness of this business.

I will focus my positions based on my community's input and involvement on the issues so we can maintain the city we all enjoy and love. By working together and listening to your perspectives, we can ensure Wheat Ridge remains a place we are all proud to call home.

I believe our city has faced mismanagement, and I am committed to understanding the root causes and addressing them with practical solutions. My goal is to restore transparency and accountability while adopting a fiscally conservative approach—one that mirrors the careful budgeting we all practice at home. I will work to ensure there are no hidden agendas, and that every resident can trust how our city's resources are being managed.
I have heard from many constituents that 38th Avenue remains a frustrating problem, particularly regarding the long-promised sidewalk from Youngsfield to Kipling that has yet to be delivered. I am committed to investigating what happened to that promise and working to ensure we deliver on it. Our city must be accountable for its commitments, and I will prioritize finding solutions to provide the safe and accessible infrastructure our community deserves.
Have questions or suggestions? I would love to hear from you!
